Feed Mill Operator

This is a Full-time position in Fort Morgan, Colorado posted April 29, 2021.

POSITION:             Feed Mill Operator

REPORTS TO:       Mill Manager

SUMMARY:  Assists in various mill operations including housekeeping, maintenance and repair by performing the following essential duties and responsibilities:


  • Responsible for flaking all corn for the feed yard, receiving all corn, receiving all alfalfa and whatever other commodities are necessary.
  • Monitors quality of incoming corn and reports any issues to Supervisor. 
  • Performs daily quality control tests on flake moisture, silage moisture, flake weight, flake cook, conductivity testing, and softness testing.
  • Maintains all flakers, boilers, and moisture systems to produce the best flakes.
  • Performs preventative maintenance by carrying out maintenance tasks on all mill and batching equipment; reports any maintenance issues to Supervisor immediately. 
  • Participates in daily housekeeping including cleaning of all the mill areas.
  • Performs seasonal cleaning of grain bins. 
  • Teamwork and efficiency are expected as well as assisting in various departments of the feed yard when necessary. 
  • Follows all Dinklage safety policies, procedures, and keeps up to date with safety regulations and requirements.
  • Professionalism is expected including courtesy and respect to team members, customers, and vendors.


  • Experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Ability to understand safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.


High School Diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 


Mechanical – Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

Agriculture Products – Knowledge of techniques and equipment of agriculture products, including storage and handling techniques. 


Operation and Control – Controlling operations of equipment or systems.

Operation Monitoring – Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.

Quality Control Analysis – Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.

Repairing – Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools.

Troubleshooting – Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it. 

Organizational Support – Follows Dinklage’s policies and procedures and supports the Organization’s goals and values. 

Dependability – Follows instructions, responds to leadership direction, commits to work schedule to meet organization and team goals. 

Mathematics – Ability to apply mathematical concepts and knowledge to perform essential job functions.

Employee is required to wear all safety PPE relevant to the mill safety procedures and requirements.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to airborne particles.  The employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and high temperatures.  The noise level is usually loud.  PPE is required.  The employee is frequently required to climb or balance and is exposed to work in high areas.
